SKETCHBOOKS 2019 2020

An important part of my practice are the work I make in sketchbooks. I keep more than one book going all the time, often the work will interchange between books and themes emerge across different books. I often note take in the backs, research, talks I attend or bits of conversations. All of these books are included as they form a detailed insight into my practice whilst studying on the Post Graduate degree. These are all from the first year, October 2019-May 2020.

Sketchbook 10

Date: October 2019-February 2020 Size: A6 materials: pencil

This book records moving my language through drawing from graphical notes to optical imagery. I start to develop ideas of larger conceptual drawings and sculptural objects. It includes research notes and notes taken during Nan Golding talk at National Portrait Gallery 17th October 2019.

Sketchbooks 11-14 These conceptual works were made on the 13th January, using a system of drawing intuitively a repeated graphic symbol. The idea develops over the course of the making. I had used this drawing as a basis for a painting. Books 11-12 are read left to right, I felt by the end of book 11 that the action needed to start at the back of the book. Books 13-14 read right to left.

Date: 13th January 2020 Size: A6 materials, black wax, yellow masking tape, additional paper.
