During lockdown I have made a series of drawings from discarded life drawings that I was about to recycle. I divided these drawings up by folding each drawing into four and tore them on the fold.

I then divided 14 of the drawings into seven sections and 28 of the drawings into nine sections. On the seven sections pieces I drew 9 downward strokes seven times. On the nine sections pieces I drew 7 downward strokes. Once all the sections were drawn I then erased sections and redrew them out of step, or in step depending on how the drawing happened. On some sections I added drawing to this where it felt right.

I have tiled the completed pieces back together

This work is ongoing. I have been thinking around that disruption of the original drawing and thinking about how to erase, albeit in an arbitrary way, then reconstruct the drawings in a systematic way almost abstracting but not completely the forms of the body still emerging. A transition between form and abstraction is what is occurring and that language is something that has been appearing in my sculptural work. To be continued.

Next steps
