7 x 9 drawings using life drawing

I spent part of my lockdown getting back into my home studio, and in the process of clearing out I found a series of life drawings. I decided to use these and take the figure into a more abstracted space by applying the system 7 x 9 to them. I divided the drawings up and tore them into smaller pieces. I then divided some up with lines making division by seven and the rest were turned landscape and divided by nine lines. I then used the connection of the other number, nine and seven respectively. So for the pieces with seven divisions, I would draw nine connections making cells. I then drew and shaded sections and also erased whole lengths and then redrew to disrupt the figure within the drawing.

I continued to work on this throughout June, July and August. This work developed over the months and I began to get a real sense of the working of my series and system from undertaking this piece. It was a transitional phase for me in my drawing practice. I presented the concluded pieces in the post about work in progress dated the 12th August which you can view here.
