Print induction workshop with Mike Wright 8th November

I spent the day in with L4 doing monoprints. Learning to mix printing ink with copper plate oil for the drypoint.

Mike showed us a series of his mono prints. He used a mixture of techniques in his strong body of work. His themes are consistent to it was interesting to see how he had used varied technique to show this development.

He showed us the inked up plate, and then he worked into this with various techniques look at notes

Learnt the process of the print room

  • keeping paper separate from inking area
  • where to work on the initial stages
  • where to ink up
  • how to roll the ink and the sound it makes when its ready
  • Inking up the plate
  • working up the plate in the inking area
  • how to place the plate on the press newsprint/plate
  • prepare paper by soaking with clean hands
  • squeezing water out of paper
  • blotting paper
  • Taking paper to the press and placing it paper/tissue
  • placing the blanket
  • rolling the press
  • revealing the print
  • how to correctly mark the print
  • where to story the print in the drying rack (one layer only)
